India - Rapid Transportation - Need out of box thinking

Railway passenger transport is a chronic problem in India with under capacity and over crowding. Road transport is time consuming despite good national highways coming-up (Driving throught a highway under widening is a nightmare by itself and NHAI / State highway agencies seem to have little regard for safety).

India should seriously consider large aircraft like A380 and B 787 for mass long haul transport (over 700 km to 2500 km) as this is more efficient and time saving. Travel time for 1200 km to 2000 km usually takes between 24 and 26 hrs and travel by air including check-in time is less than 4 hrs.

We should consider creating 30-50 major airports as hubs and mini hubs and enable transportation to nearby areas by hi-speed trains. This should cover entire India, for better economic integration of the country. This has also the potential to enable balanced growth.
